What is a bare metal server

Bare-metal Server Introduction

Bare Metal Server (BMS) is a computing service that combines elastic cloud server and physical machine performance. It provides you and your enterprise with a dedicated physical server on the cloud, providing excellent computing performance and data security for core databases, critical application systems, high performance computing, big data and other businesses. Tenants can apply flexibly and use it on demand.

The bare-metal server setup is self-service. You only need to specify the specific server type, image, required network configuration, etc., to get the bare-metal server you need. FCloud is responsible for the supply, operation and maintenance of servers.

Functional comparison of bare metal servers with physical machines and virtual machines

The comparison of bare metal servers with physical machines and virtual machines is shown in Table 1. Among them, Y means supported, N means not supported, and N/A means not involved.

Instructions:

No feature loss, no performance loss: Bare metal servers have all the features and advantages of physical machines. Your application can directly access the processors and memory of bare metal servers without any virtualization overhead.

Common concepts

  • The physical computing resources on the cloud, that is, the bare metal servers running in the FCloud cloud data center.
  • To describe the data center where bare metal servers are located, see zones and availability zones.
  • Bare metal servers consist of different cpus, memory, storage, and networking, etc. See the instance type.
  • For a template of the bare-metal server running environment, which includes a specific operating system and some pre-installed application software, check out the image.
  • See Network for bare-metal server network types and their respective use cases.
  • The internal and external service address of the instance, namely the private IP address and the elastic public IP address.

Access method

The cloud service platform provides a web-based service management system (management console) and an API (Application Programming Interface) management method based on HTTPS requests.

  • API approach

If the user needs to integrate the bare metal server on the cloud service platform into the third-party system for secondary development, please use the API method to access the bare metal server.

  • Management console mode

For other related operations, please use the administration console mode to access the bare metal server. If the user has registered a public cloud, he can directly log into the management console and select "Cloud Computing Power Service > Bare Metal Server" from the home page.
